Ever said, former procrastinators, “I know it’s here somewhere. It has to be”? That’s a woeful cry we can avoid if we learn which documents our household should have in hand and gather them into a suitable place.
One year for Christmas I asked my husband for the gift of a book put out by Crown Ministries – Set Your House in Order. It’s a manual/workbook that tells you what documents you should have, provides pages for information, and places to note where additional documents are stored (safe, bank, etc.) The end result was one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.
Now our documents are stored or referenced in “the pink notebook.” I know where this hefty volume is and so do our children. My mind is at ease.
Below you’ll find various lists advising which documents to gather. There’s a lot of overlap as each names essentials and then some omit or expand other choices.
It takes a while to gather these, so hang in there and build your collection. It’s part of being a faithful steward. You’ll be glad you did.
