“Gas In. Garbage Out”
(To maintain a clean car or at least control debris) Clean out the van or car when you fill up at the gas station. There’s a large trash receptacle right there. The kids learn this is the routine and everybody pitches in to finish quickly.
“To Hear the Story, Be Here”
(One method of making sure everyone is in the car on time.) In the car listen to stories on DVD. The car starts at the appointed departure time and the DVD starts then too. If you aren’t in the car, you miss that part of the story and there’s no going back. Gets exciting with continuing stories.
“Ready. Set. Go.”
(Contributes to a smooth morning, helps avoid frustration, delay, and lost items.) Ready – Before bed, each child lays out his clothes for the next day. Set – Place shoes and backpacks by the front door or other designated spot. Go – To bed.
Thankfulness Journal
Every Thanksgiving each person writes or dictates what he or she is especially thankful for that year. These are kept in one journal and reread in years to come. Parents, keep it up even when the nest is empty.
Running Photo Album
To keep a photo album for her runner husband, after each race, a friend puts two – three pictures on a page along with pertinent documentation. She makes it a point to do this immediately after each run. Adapt for any special topic. Make it a point to enter pictures and documentation before the next event.
