The Word with Us – See. Perceive. Act.
Merry Christmas, former procrastinators! It’s wonderful how the Lord God grips our hearts again and again with the realization of truth. Old things become newly precious to us. Today I’d like to share some thoughts from a Christmas message. Our pastor Patrick, helped bring home the reality of our Lord in this world for our sakes focusing on John 1:1-3.
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”
Jews would read John 1 and immediately think of Genesis 1. “In the beginning God..” and “In the beginning was the Word.” John paints Jesus against the Old Testament background. Greek readers understood that words expressed rational principles but they did not think “word” could be tangible, only an idea. To grasp that Jesus is the Word and became flesh is stunning. Jesus is the Word, not a philosophy.
“In the beginning was the Word…” Jesus existed before time. He did not come into being in Bethlehem. He was revealed to us in the flesh in Bethlehem. Before there was sin to save us from, He already was.
“…and the Word was with God” and “He was in the beginning with God.” “With” here indicates a face-to-face relationship.
“The Word was God…” Jesus is not a lesser god. He is one in essence with the Father.
“All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.” The fully eternal God, our Creator, came here to us. The God face-to-face with God came face-to-face with us. He is not just from God. He is God.
We respond in worship. The baby hands that held His mama’s finger made all things. He is not overwhelmed by your life or mine. He came to give His life so we have life.
Let us kneel and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

That is both beautiful & powerful. Thank b you for sharing that perspective. Merry Christmas
THank you, Lynn. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and that 2026 is a blessing!
