Former procrastinators, we were singing in church when truth in the hymn and truth in life came together for me. The hymn “Draw Me Nearer” (Fanny Crosby and William Doane) is a prayer for the Lord to pull me closer to Himself. Down a few verses it goes: “Consecrate me now to Thy service Lord…
My mother said to this procrastinator, “Beth, you always count on perfection. Life is not like that.” She was right. I routinely counted on all green lights and no traffic. I didn’t calculate accurately or allow margin when I left the house. For a ten minute drive, I allowed ten minutes. What about traffic? Weather?…
Former procrastinators, our tendency to put things off comes with a talent for rationalization. (Varnishing over?) For us, it’s easy to find reasons not to do what needs doing when it needs doing. We invent a perspective that serves our desire to delay. We twist facts in our favor, believe that, and act on the…
Hallelujah, former procrastinators! We just celebrated the resurrection of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! Now it’s another day, another week…Now what? Recently I experienced a really down day. One reason, former procrastinators, that I put off writing a thank you is that my heart is so full. This is especially true when someone has long been deeply significant in my life or was used briefly in a significant way. I don’t know what to say or how to say it. There’s so much…
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Proverbs 6:6-8
. . . you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
Colossians 3:9-10
