Hallelujah, former procrastinators! We just celebrated the resurrection of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! Now it’s another day, another week…Now what?
Recently I experienced a really down day. I made a mistake which brought a negative response. That negative response opened the door in my mind to many reminders about my ugliness. I was bombarded by sadness, doubt, and rejection.
I stood in a courtroom head down, guilty of not being or doing enough, guilty of many wrongs. I was about to be condemned to life shackled as a burden to family who wished I were not me. Then my advocate spoke.
Jesus is my advocate. “My little children, I am writing this to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the expiation (payment) for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” I John 2:1-2
Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death and darkness. He lives! HE is my Advocate! He is the Winner! I don’t have a good case; I have The Great Advocate! He loves me, wants me, and speaks on my behalf. He paid my penalty. His Holy Spirit lives in me. He carries the day.
The whole truth is the ugly truth about me is paid for AND I am a new woman in Christ. This affects my thoughts about myself and affects my relationships. Jesus paid for me to walk in the light.
The old man and the enemy focus us on damaging thoughts. When we recognize this tactic and turn to Jesus, He empowers the new man.
If we put off doing this immediately, we allow the enemy to direct us. If we take perverse pleasure in wallowing in the true but negative, we direct ourselves downward. Delay means dwelling in darkness.
Put off such thoughts! Put on the new man! Focus on the whole truth: I’ve sinned but I am forgiven, created a new woman, I’m growing within and in my relationships.
We do not have to cower bound in a cell, miserable and afraid of judgements against us. We walk free because Jesus is advocating for us. He leads us as new women in the light.
This is walking in the Spirit. Thinking Jesus’s thoughts about us. Refusing to give the old man or the devil any mental space.
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
THAT is what’s now! Resurrection power for daily thinking! Thank you, Jesus!
In what area are you inclined to spiral down with negative thoughts? How can you turn to your Advocate and focus on the whole truth about you as a new woman in Christ?
