This recovering procrastinator rejoices! “Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can declare all His praise?” Psalm 106:1-2
This Thanksgiving I am especially grateful our family will be together and…
That He is the God who redeems!
That He is ever present and present everywhere
That He is majestic and beautiful beyond anything I can grasp
That He is my Father and loves perfectly those I love imperfectly
That I find joy in NOT being in control of many things. What relief! What a privilege to see God work!
That He is my Guide and Helper in those things that are my responsibility
That recognizing the difference in goals and desires is so freeing
That He made us all with such variety in tastes, interests, abilities.
That the blood of Jesus covers me therefore NOTHING can snatch me – or His others – out of His hand
That our amazing God WANTS us to know Him
That His redeeming work has brought us ladies together
That you help me walk more faithfully on this journey out of procrastination into diligence
That you give comments, feedback, emails sharing your thoughts and ideas
That diligence is work, play, or rest in season – not constant work!
That we can give up pursuing perfection and relax in being faithful
That we can promote fruit in our lives but GOD produces it
That in mercy, grace, and patience He lifts us up when we fall and sets us on the path again
That Our Lord uses us as clean available peanut butter jars, nothing fancy required
That habits can facilitate faithfulness and that I can learn new habits
That with ups and downs, goofs, wins and losses, I am learning to walk free! Doing what needs doing when it needs doing, frees me of the burdens heaped on by procrastination
That He has given me a husband, accountability partner, web designer and praying friends who are God’s instruments
That we ladies have each other on this walk to victory! I’m grateful for YOU! God bless you richly!
What special thanks do you have this Thanksgiving?
When our kids were little, we began a journal for Thanksgiving, where each person wrote (or dictated) what they were thankful to God for during that year. My husband and I continue to do it, and yesterday we read over the earliest entries. How special it was to hear again the things we and our kids have been thankful for over the years!
Lynn, for each person to say what he or she is especially grateful for that year puts the focus on the Lord no matter what our circumstances. I really enjoy doing that. To keep a journal recording what is said is a wonderful idea! I wish we had such a treasure here. That is like setting up memorial stones (Joshua 4) that remind us of God’s work on our behalf and of His blessings in our personal family life. You can read that journal anytime, but to have it each Thanksgiving is hugely special for your family and God-honoring. It’s also pretty simple to do. An attractive journal is easy to purchase but a spiral notebook would serve well too. We can start anytime! I’m making a plan now to begin that next year. Reviewing it over the years can become a great tradition. Thanks for the inspiration!
Also, Lynn, it’s great you and your husband continue this with or without children present. It’s easy to drop some meaningful things when the children are grown or gone. We need our own hearts reminded and focused. Thanks for that too!
HI Beth,
Loved you list – it helped me to consider new things to be grateful for and in new ways. These especially ministered to me:
That He is my Father and loves perfectly those I love imperfectly
That I find joy in NOT being in control of many things. What relief! What a privilege to see God work!
That He is my Guide and Helper in those things that are my responsibility
That recognizing the difference in goals and desires is so freeing
That the blood of Jesus covers me therefore NOTHING can snatch me – or His others – out of His hand
That our amazing God WANTS
That His redeeming work has brought
That you help me walk more faithfully on this journey out of pro
That you give comments, feedback, emails sharing your thoughts and ideas
That diligence is work, play, or rest in season – not constant work!
That we can give up pursuing perfection and relax in being faithful
That we can promote fruit in our lives but GOD produces it
That in mercy, grace, and patience He lifts us up when we fall and sets us on the path again
That Our Lord uses us as clean available peanut butter jars, nothing fancy required
That habits can facilitate faithfulness and that I can learn new habits
Thank you, dear friend, for once again stirring my soul!
Love you!
Ana
