A New Year, former procrastinators! And a new theme to boost us toward diligence. A new beginning sparks ideas, determination, and hope. A new pair of socks even puts a spring in my step. A new book, a new calendar, a new friend open possibilities for us. I think God as Creator and Renewer of things is at the root of the hope and joy we feel with a new beginning.
Last year our theme was Say “Yes” to God. This year’s theme is similar, yet different. Looking at a dress, a problem, a scene from another angle can open our eyes to things we’d not noticed before. So with this year’s theme:
Keep in Step with the Spirit.
“Keep in Step with the Spirit” makes me think, if I don’t move when He moves, in the direction He moves, at the pace He moves, I’ll be left behind. I’ll miss out on action and rest, growth, fruit, and blessing. I’ll miss out on what He wants to do in my life. I need not worry about being in frantic mode to keep up or being worn to a frazzle. With my hand in His, the pace will be just right. It may not be my preferred pace, but – fast, slow, or medium- it will be for my good and God’s glory.
The larger scripture for us is Galatians 5:16-26. We’ll focus on verse 25. “If we live in the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” (ESV) NKJV says “let us also walk in the Spirit.” The ESV clearly reminds me that the Spirit Himself is the one who sets the motive, direction, manner, and timing of how He wants me to walk.
I pray this is a wonderful year for each of you and that we will all grow more diligent in every area of our lives. Whether it’s cleaning out kitchen clutter or asking someone’s forgiveness, may we be alert to the Holy Spirit’s prompting and move as He does without delay.
What does “keep in step with the Spirit” make you think of?
Thanks Beth. Ready to walk at God’s pace. 🧡🙏
I like the way you put that, Lynn. We’re in this together!
