Objections to Sharing the Gospel 2 – See. Perceive. Act

19Oct

Here, former procrastinators, are more objections to evangelism.  This is something many of us put off.  As I work through these thoughts, I’m perceiving the real roots of my objections.

  • “I’m not a good example of a Christian” – But I may be what the person needs.  God knows my frame, that I am dust, and He still calls me to share. I don’t point to myself but to Jesus.
  •  Faulty theology (“God will save those He wants to.  He doesn’t need me.”)  God has designed that we ordinary people share the gospel and bring others to Him.  He ordains this.  I must be faithful to obey.  What a privilege to be instruments in the hands of God!proc
  • “I’ll do that when I’m older” – We may not get older.  Also, we tend to become increasingly the same.  Praise God, He changes us – but we need to cooperate with Him.  There’s no age associated with the command.
  • “I’m ashamed to identify with Jesus.” – Am I not “scientific” or “sophisticated”?  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation.” (Romans 1:16)  Would I deny the One who saved me?  “So everyone who acknowledges me before men I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.”  (Matthew 10:32-33)
  • Lack of love for people – Do I not care about other people?  Am I so self-absorbed I’d let others go into eternal anguish?  “Many … don’t know to prepare because they’re unaware of their predicament. … The greatest unkindness is to leave people in their sin when the ransom for their release has already been paid in full.” (Melissa Krueger)
  • Lack of love for God and His glory – Being ready to share honors Christ as holy. (I Peter 3:15).  God showed His love for us by sending Jesus. (Romans 5:8)   He tells us to declare His wondrous works; His salvation is His most glorious work.  (Psalm 96:3)  God makes His appeal through us.  (2 Corinthians 5:20)  Christ suffered that He might bring us to God  (1 Peter 3:18).  He wants fishers of men.  (Matthew. 4:19).  By His grace, we can bring Him joy, honor, glory!  Does my heart thrill to thrill Him?
  • “What gives me the right to tell somebody else about the gospel?”  Jesus Christ Himself.  He has supreme authority and power.  He commands and empowers us.  “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Hoy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:18-20.)

KJV says “Lo, I am with you always.”  My dear mentor said, “We want the ‘Lo’ without the ‘Go.’”  Let us go!  We are authorized.

    1. I feel the same way. Learning about the doctor who saw the sincerity of the hesitant young man who shared with him helps give me courage. The doctor trusted Christ. God uses us in spite of our bumbling. He’s the one who wins hearts, not us. That relieves pressure and frees us to engage others without fear of our “qualifications.”
