Minis for Max Benefits – See. Perceive. Act.

3Aug

One of the greatest benefits of mini habits, former procrastinators, is that using them helps us abide in the Vine.  They facilitate obedience.  Jesus commends those who are faithful in a few things, in little things.  Mini habits are little things.

“Oh, that my ways were directed to keep your statutes!”  (Psalm 119:5  NKJV)  “Oh, that my ways were steadfast in keeping your statutes!” (ESV)  Directed and steadfast.  Mini habits are a wonderful way to establish us on the path the Lord directs.  They help us do what needs doing when it needs doing.  They remove a weight of frustration, failure, and guilt.  They free us to make progress.

They cooperate with how God created our brains to work so we meet less inner resistance and take advantage of automation.

Mini habits give you an appropriate feeling of being in control – especially if you’re doing a priority.  The sense of floundering because “I never get around to it” goes away.

They help you be faithful, consistent.

They do away with fear, intimidation, procrastination.

They give constant success without fatigue.

Mini habits work when you’re stressed and they’re stress-relieving because they’re tiny and you make progress.

They are too small to fail and too small to skip.

Mini habits build self-control/will power as a mindset and as a muscle.

They enable you to work on more than one area of habit formation at once because they demand so little.

Mini habits are a great way to help train children.

They provide a foundation for doing more if you choose.  They set you up for more but do not require it.

Mini habits form habits – even if you meet only the tiny requirement.

Guise sums it up: Doing a little bit consistently over time yields greater results than pouring a lot of time and energy into something on occasion. Plus, we gain the advantage of forming a habit.

There are so many ways to utilize mini habits. If daily quiet time is a struggle, try a mini and spend five to seven minutes with God.  Use them to learn a language or train a dog.   Lay out clothes for the next day.  Do a two-minute pick up of the living room before bedtime.  Get upwhen the alarm goes off.  Declutter mini habit style; part of a drawer or shelf moves you forward with no time for decision fatigue.  Memorize scripture.  Start dinner prep in the morning.  Read. Floss! Share your ideas…
