January Adjustments – See. Perceive. Act
January, former procrastinators, is like the first page of a new notebook. I really luv it. Most planners start with January which makes sense, of course. I order a Planner Pad that runs July to July because I like having the whole school year or church year in one book. January is the mid-year boost I look forward to.
January is a natural time to think about goals, resolutions, themes, key words. Whatever approach you take, the important thing is to create focus and provide direction. We do this to avoid drifting along or spinning our wheels. Actually God is the one where we get focus and direction. So, beginning the year with prayer and seeking His guidance is critical. Then, we can plan.
We can look carefully at what we have been doing September-December and perceive whether or not we should continue. Does continuing line up with what the Lord is impressing upon you? Or is He calling you to something different – even nothing? Sometimes we need more white space in our days and He prompts us to do less.
Act. But don’t just drop out. Communicate with the Bible study leader or whoever is in charge what your thinking is and why you won’t be around for that activity. Make specific plans for what the Lord is calling you to in this season. Next week we’ll look at how to do that so we know what we’re aiming for and have a time to do it.
When will you sit and consider the Lord’s leading for this year?
