Former procrastinators, rejoice in Christ’s resurrection! And ours! What a wonderful time to focus on the gospel Truth that sets us free!
I tried persistently to change for many years and failed badly. Though a hard worker, I was constantly discouraged and bogged down in the consequences of my poor decisions.
Hallelujah! God in His grace broke through with these truths:
- Procrastination is slothfulness – putting off what needs doing when it needs doing.
- Diligence is doing what needs doing when it needs doing – work, play, or rest.
- Self is the root of my procrastination/slothfulness problem.
- Procrastination prevents godly fruit; diligence promotes it.
Below, let’s apply the truth Romans 6:1-10 has for us. “Self” here is my exaltation of me over God’s goodness and authority. You’ll see this is not a direct quote from NKJV.
Shall we continue in self and procrastination that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to that sin live in it any longer? If we were baptized into Christ Jesus, we were baptized into His death.
So just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in new life.
If we have been united together in the likeness of His death, we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.
We know our old man – with self and slothfulness -was crucified with Him. Self and procrastination were done away with – so we should no longer be their slaves. Dead women are free from self and slothfulness.
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him. He’s been raised from the dead, so He dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
He died to sin- like my self and procrastination -once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
You and I can walk free in new life because Jesus DIED for YOU and ME – and ROSE for YOU and ME! He defeated self and slothfulness/procrastination. They do not have dominion over us. We can live our lives, unfettered, unto God. Thank you, Jesus!
How will you enjoy new life this week?
