The Lord has created us, former procrastinators, with the capacity to enjoy Him, the world He made, and the people in it. There’s an incredible depth of delight that we can plunge into with Him. We should seek to do that and enjoy every particle of pleasure He has for us. What comes from Him…
There’s benefit in making plans, former procrastinators, even if you cannot carry them out. Thinking things through, seeing possibilities, ideas, perspectives, ways of approach – these are helpful whether or not you get to go from A to Z the way you originally intended. Planning works our brains and opens our minds to possibilities. “The…
Our next proverb, former procrastinators, states facts poetically, as do many of them. “Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.” Proverbs 20:13. The Lord gives His beloved sleep; we should enjoy it. The connotation here is that if we habitually choose sleep – laziness…
Last week, former procrastinators, we noticed that the sluggard does not operate in reality. He expects benefit without doing the necessary work at the necessary time. Instead, he receives nothing. The opportunity to do the thing is gone and with it the benefits or enjoyments of doing it. Sometimes we just miss out. …
This one leaves me bamboozled, former procrastinators. This guy seems to be the height – or lowest depth – of laziness. I mean really. We could say this guy makes us feel good. “The sluggard buries his hand in the dish and will not even bring it back to his mouth.” Proverbs 19:24 There’s a similar…
Ever slept so hard, former procrastinators, you just couldn’t seem to wake up? It’s as if you’re glued to the pillow and the mattress and your eyelids are glued shut. It takes a very deliberate act of the will to pull those eyes slightly open and to maybe utter a low groan. Sitting up is…
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Proverbs 6:6-8
. . . you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
Colossians 3:9-10
