We procrastinators find it easy to put things off because of our inadequacies. “I’m not good at that” or “I don’t have what this job needs.” We focus on our insufficiencies and avoid taking action.
In Matthew14:13-21 the disciples recognized a need among hungry people and gave Jesus their solution – send them to somebody else.
However, Jesus responded, “YOU give them something to eat.” (Us? That’s absurd.)
Perturbed disciples pointed out their inadequacy. “We have here only 5 loaves and two fishes.”
“Bring them here to me.” The boy who gave his lunch and the disciples submitted what they had to Jesus who positioned the people to receive. He thanked God for the small lunch and blessed it. Then he gave the food to the DISCIPLES to give to the multitude. He put the “only-a- just-a” back in their hands to serve the hungry. With His touch, it was exceeding abundantly above enough to satisfy several thousand people.
“I’m just a mom.” “I’m only a researcher.” “I’m just a baby sitter.”
Are you also an Only-a Just-a wife, daughter, sister, single lady, teacher, blind woman, volunteer, customer, coach, friend, invalid, etc.?
Jesus has positioned people in our lives so that using us He can minister to them. We object by pointing out our limitations. He says in effect, put that in my hands and trust me. He gives it back, blessed, for us disciples to give to others.
My mother often spoke of a pastor who had a woman in his church who thought she couldn’t do anything to help people. He insisted she tell him some ability she had. Finally she admitted, “Well, I do make pretty good chicken soup.” “That’s great! I’ll call on you to make chicken soup for our people who are sick, have a new baby, or are having a tough time.” She quickly learned being “just a soup maker” ministered to people.
Like me, you may be an Only-a-Just-a, but we are forgiven women, believers in Jesus, followers of Him. We can put our little bit in His hands where a little becomes a miracle.
He has you and me where we are, as we are, for His purpose. All He wants is an Only-a-Just-a.
What’s a way God has blessed others using you in spite of your limitations?
