A new year means a new theme, former procrastinators! I hope this approach encourages you too. Having a theme reminds me to focus and take action.
“Because you have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind you; your right hand upholds me.” Psalm 63:7-8 (NKJV)
In 2020 our theme will be “Follow Close.”
I’m struck by how near I should be to the Lord and how that will impact my doing what needs doing when it needs doing. I’m struck by how close He wants me to be to Him. Scripture speaks of “under his wing” in other places too. That’s snug up close. This month we’ll examine aspects of “follow close.” We’ll consider diligence in light of that.
Looking first at “my soul,” that’s the core of my being, the me that will live forever with Him. Since that is true, what kind of decisions will I make now in the use of my mind, time, and energy while living my daily life here?
It’s in the daily that we write our story. There are big moments and big decisions, but the small everyday patterns that we follow weave the fabric of our lives. Sometimes circumstances and other people affect our lives in very big ways – but we choose our response and act on that in the everyday.
Do you put off reconciliation with someone? Avoid asking forgiveness? Need His guidance regarding hard things? Lack courage to tackle an issue? Need comfort and help? May we seek His face – get that close to Him – so that our hearts and minds align with His in the big and small of life. It will affect what we do and when.
What tough thing to deal with will you take to the Lord this week? When will you sit with Him and listen?
Asking forgiveness isn’t as difficult as it used to be. Asking for Guidance is another story altogether. I find myself constantly asking for God’s guidance………but then find myself asking for guidance the way “I want it to go”. I am working on that aspect of my life. Using the scriptures, I know I’ll find a way to help me. I can’t continue to put off addressing it!
I also like to plan and then ask God’s blessing, Viki. Sometimes I even assume He supports my way. Like you, I want to ask His guidance first and then follow through. The results will be rewarding and our faith will grow.
